| 5/20/08 | Victor Leamon registered on the UHS page with this message for old friends: "My family moved from Bloomington to Tallahassee, FL during 9th grade. Although I didn't graduate from UHS I did spend six years at this school (4th-9th grades) and would like to be listed with the "Class of 1970". I sure had a lot of friends there and reading the list of classmates has certainly brought back many good memories. I have a couple of class pictures of our 4th and 5th grade classes. I can email you copies if you're interested. Thanks for this site!" |

| 3/08/08 | Jim Wolff writes: Hello classmates, hope you are all doing well. As is posted on our web site Jimmy Sinn passed away in 2007. I always loved Jim like a brother but was never fonder of him than the last two of his life. I reconnected with Jim in 2005 while I was in Bloomington for our 2005 class reunion. His health had become pretty poor by that time. Jimmy thought he could run through a brick wall and he had tried several times too many (just one of the things I loved about him). He still had his great sense of humor and was the same practical joker he had always been. We talked at least weekly on the telephone, sometimes twice a day as his health kept him confined the last 6 months. Jim had changed so much over the years and I want you all to know what a wonderful human being he has become. Jim loved kids, working with kids and coaching them in football. He always wanted to know if his old friends had children and how they were, what they were doing. He treated mine like he had his own. He had become a bit of a philosopher and was very concerned about the direction our culture seemed to be taking. Although he had become a hermit of sorts Jim was always asking me about many of our classmates. The fact is Jim felt bad about the way some things turned out in his life. Although we never discussed it much I could tell he was embarrassed by some things that had happened in his life. He wished he had taken better advantage of his potential. As a result he isolated, which was too bad for all of us because over the years he has become a tender hearted soul. He called me the day he slipped into a coma ... I missed that call but I still have the message...he closed with "love ya brother" as he always did nearly every time we spoke. I just wanted let you, my classmates what a great guy this classmate became. I miss him so often. Best wishes to you all....Jim Wolff, Franklin TN |
| 7/18/07 | Susan White Bastian says: "I'd love to know about the next class of 1970 reunion!" - and Steve Bastian adds: Susan discovered the UHS website today. We got a kick from reading about old familiar names and looking at some crazy pictures. We were just talking about U-School this past weekend. What a great website. Great job!!!" |
| 7/10/2007 | Louise Siffin
died July 6, 2007. She was a life-long, off and on, resident of
Bloomington, graduating from IU, where she was an exceptional scholar
of international relations. She traveled the world as Special Assistant
to former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Jeane
Kirkpatrick, and later as co-founder of the National Endowment for
Democracy in Washington, D.C. In 1988, Louise and her partner,
Stan Gage, returned to Bloomington with their daughter. She worked at
Indiana University in various capacities, serving last as the Director
of Global Programs and Managing Director of CIBER for the Kelley School
of Business. Louise is survived by her daughter Leah Gage, her mother, her brother Kelly Siffin and his wife and two children, her brother Mark Siffin (UHS '68) and his wife and two children, and Leah's brother Demian Gage and his family. Her death was preceded by her father, William J. Siffin of Bloomington, and Stan Gage of Indianapolis. |
| 6/3/07 | There is an obituary in the 6/3/2007 Herald Times for
James
Sinn, who died in Bloomington on May 31. In part the
obituary says: "A 1970 graduate of University High School, he was an All-State Football player for the Univee’s. James was an employee of Indiana University where he worked as a supervisor for the parking facilities. Being a former football player, he spent countless hours as a volunteer with youth sports activities with his sons, including serving as President of the Youth Football League in its early stages. There will be no public visitation. Private family services will be conducted on Friday [June 8]." |
| 5/25/07 | Debbie
Wolfe
writes: "I now am a nurse at Promptcare East here in
Bloomington.
I am working on finishing a nursing degree, at my age it is hard!
I don't know how many of you remember me. I was always one of
the
shy students. I now work with Dr.Lee McKinley (Class of 69) and he has
not let me live down not going to the last class reunion. Hopefully
there will be more and maybe other get-to-gethers for the class and
friends. I got married about a year after graduation but have been
divorced for years. I have 2 children, Stephenie and Matthew and have 4
beautiful grandkids (ages 2 to 12). I just found this web site and was really excited to see all the names I remembered from classes. I went to school with some really special people and am saddened by the loss of some of them. Let me know when the next get together is and I will try to be off from work to attend. If any of you remember me please email me at dwolfe@bloomingtonhospital.org. I look forward to hearing from you." |
| 3/30/07 | Cindy Richardson Carpenter says: "I just stumbled on this website today, 3/30/07. Somehow, I missed all the reunion gatherings in '05. I'm not far from Bloomington - about 60 miles SW. Hope to see everyone at 40th. -Cindy" |
| 3/28/07 | Kathryn Hoffa Betournay says: "We moved to Concord, NH in 2006, and I am semi-retired, and enjoying doing creative quilting and volunteer work." |
| 8/22/06 | Warren Meinschein wrote: "I just went searching, on a whim, for University High School and was surprised to find this web site. I have been out of touch for decades but 2 years ago I moved from South Florida to the the Cincinnati area so I am close to Bloomington again. I know, in the near future, I would like to arrange a visit Bloomington so I thought I would send out a note and say'Hi' to any ex-univees who are around." |
| 11/7/05 | Bob McIntyre writes: "My brother, Frank, phoned me last
week
from UHS's all-class re-union, prompting this message. I would be quite
interested in hearing from any Univees from the 1967-68 school year, as
I attended UHS that one year, lettered in varsity football and
wrestling; and also because I was only a 10th grader then, additionally
played in the Reserve team football games on Monday afternoons. I have
some good memories of team-mates and class-mates at UHS, although some
might recall my difficulty adjusting to Bloomington, after moving there
from Cleveland, OH where I was born and raised. I've been in Boulder, since 1976 where I completed a Ph.D. at the University of Colorado, became a licensed psychologist, and conduct a private practice specializing in forensic and neuropsychology. I have 2 great kids, currently 18 and 26 years old. Their mother and I remain great friends, albeit not great spouses." |

| 10/12/05 | Margaret Farkas Radke writes: "party times nears....be there or be square...my house on Fri. Oct. 28th ....more details/map to follow! Margaret Radke (Farkas) And yes, I am the same wonderful, witty beautiful, intelligent, lying person I always was! |
| 10/1/05 | Christy Savage Linnemeier writes again - "Dear Class of 70 members! Not everything has been finalized yet, but we are currently planning to have a get together for our class (and friends from other classes if they want to come) at Margaret Farkas (now Radke)'s house here in Bloomington on Fri. evening, Oct. 28th about 7:00p.m. When we finalize everything I'll post info here (such as location, phone numbers, etc.)" Christy |
| 9/30/05 | Kathryn Hoffa Betournay writes: "I'm glad to have discovered our class website and especially the photos of the 35th. It's great to see faces of friends I haven't seen since 1970, and some of you who were also at our 20th. I have recently completed my work as a Pastoral Counselor and Chaplain at the retirement community where I had worked for 11 years. Now I will focus my energies on creating Fabric Art and spending time with my husband of 32 years, John, in NH and at our cottage in Owls Head, Maine. My major interest at this time is Christian Spirituality. |
| 8/8/05 |
Christy Savage Linnemeier writes: "Hey members of the class of 1970. Lynn Cochran and I have discussed organizing an informal get together for members of the class of 1970 that are attending the all school reunion in Oct. especially since so few class members knew about the June reunion. Spread the word that there will be some kind of get together. More details later. |
| 7/29/05 | PHOTOS! - You have 35th reunion photos, thanks to John Long. If anyone else wants to send some, send to Margaret Olson. - More added 8/10 |
| 7/23/05 | Bill Koressel writes: "Greetings everyone, sorry that I was unable to attend the last reunion. Hope all had a great time. Busy here, planning on moving back to Bloomington, wife and son are already there, I remained behind to sell a few pieces of historical properties and to take care of my practice... Yes went back to school and finished a PhD (WWWHHEEWWW) not a good idea with a teenager in the house, but did set a good study example. Looking forward to seeing familiar faces. Feel free to write, would enjoy hearing from one and all. My best, Bill Koressel" |
| 7/16/05 | Melanie Hunt writes: "I accepted the task of organizing the 40-year class reunion in 2010. Richard Roherbacher has volunteered to help me, thank you, Richard! Judy Gaskill (prev. Pett) did the 2005 one in June. Both she and I have copies of the most recent class mailing list. Mine was last updated in 2000, and I don't know about hers, but intend to see what she's got that's more recent. I'll probably also have an informal summer reunion in 2006, possibly where my husband and I live, in Brown County, everyone welcome." |
| 6/29/05 |
John Long
attended the 35th
reunion and wrote this message to: Judy "Peck" Pett Gaskill CLASS OF
1970 "Thanks again for organizing the 35 year reunion for the UHS Class of '70. With only 13 class members in attendance, there was ample opportunity to actually talk with old friends and our "group therapy" exercise - what was the best thing about high school, what was the worst & what was the most embarrassing - was very enlightening. "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.." seems to describe the high school experience for most of us. Sunday morning I realized what a civilized & subdued reunion it had been - I still had 2 unredeemed drink coupons in my shirt - that wouldn't have been the case 10 years ago. Although it would have been great to have seen more people at the reunion, I'm grateful for any excuse to return to Bloomington. Because you took the time & effort to put together the reunion, I was able to experience the best of Bloomington - eating & drinking at Nick's with old friends, swimming in the quarries (Long Hole) with Wolffie & McCutone and hamburgers at Hinkle's - it just doesn't get any better. So once again, thanks so much Judy and it was great seeing Tem, Judy, Nancy, Sarah, Lisa, Randee, Scott (Waldo), Jim (Wolffie), Dan (McCutone), Melanie and Christy - I'm already looking forward to the 40th reunion. GO UNIVEES!! ---John" |

Linnemeier
writes: I left school after my junior year and did a lot of
working and traveling and being a hippie for a number of
years. I
began dating Richard Linnemeier (class of '69) in the fall of
1974. Three and a half years later we got engaged and 3 and a
half years after that we got married (1981). Meanwhile, I
went to
IU and got a BA in Biology and he went to Dental School. I
worked
in a lab in Indianapolis for a year while he finished Dental
School. Then he joined the Army Dental Corps and we lived in
Lawton, Oklahome (FT. Sill) for 3 years. I tutored American
Indian children in the public schools there. Our one and only
son, Micah, was born at Ft. Sill on July 3, 1985. Richard got
out
of the Army that September and we moved back to Bloomington.
I
spent the next 18 years raising our son, and volunteering in
Micah's school (helping kids publish their books in the school
publishing center, working in the school library, going on field trips,
and tutoring in the class room.) We also bought some rental
properties and I help manage those. I also manage my
brother-in-law's properties about 6 months out of the year and pet sit
for a friend's dogs quite often. Richard and I love nature and the outdoors. We like to hike, canoe, and birdwatch. We love pets and have a labrador retriever, 3 cats, an African Grey Parrot, a turtle, and goldfish. Richard has built two ponds in our backyard and we have fish and frogs living in them. We transplant a lot of plants from nature into our yard. We also love to travel--especially to foreign countries. Micah graduated from high school more than 6 months early and he wanted to go somewhere really different from the U.S. Richard and I had been to India and couldn't think of anyplace more different to take him. We all went to Amsterdam first and then to India. Richard had to come home early to work, but Micah and I went on to Thailand and then back to India for awhile. We were gone 6 and a half weeks. Micah just finished his sophomore year at IU and is studying computer science. He and his girlfriend live in one of our apartments. He turns 20 this summer. |
