April 21, 2006 - Obituary

James Ensle Pierce

Jim was born on Nov. 24, 1937, in Evansville, Indiana, and passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2006.

He spent his youth on the family's rural home site, and was a 1955 graduate of Reitz High. He graduated from Northrop University, and resided in Torrance and Redondo Beach (Calif.) for 42 years. In 1961, he went to work for Trans World Airlines, where he was employed for more than 40 years, earning many awards and honors in recognition of his outstanding service, and most recently was employed by American Airlines as a senior maintenance instructor.

Jim was a wonderful and beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Neil; and his parents, Neil V. Pierce, former principal of Reitz High School, and Jane Ensle Pierce.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah J. (Anthony) Hulsey of Torrance; sister, Rebecca (Frank) Hill of Fort Wayne, Ind.; granddaughters, Nicole and Sheila Hulsey; and nephews, Scott and Brian Hill. He will live on in our hearts forever.

Jim was respected by many as a loyal and caring friend, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a "Jack of all trades" and had a never-ending thirst for knowledge, but especially loved working on cars and for many years took care of his friends' autos. He also had a passion for auto racing, gardening, working out at the gym and was always a proud spectator at his granddaughters' softball games. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
